Dum Dum Wrappers, Part 2. Thanks very much to Trey Hoyumpa for mailing these to me. <3
This set has a newer Dum Dum logo (watermelon has the old one). I prefer the straight lines and the rhythm of the old one. Don’t fix it if it ain’t broke.
Also, mango uses halftone. Fancy!
This assignment turned into a bunch of portraits within an illustration. It’s for the Indelible Festival at the Highline Ballroom in NYC. Depicted: Bilal, Cecil Taylor, Gil Scott-Heron, AYO, ?uestlove, Mos Def, Little Jimmy Scott, and Meshell Ndegeocello. For The NY’er.
I just finished reading Bruno Munari’s Design as Art. It’s really good, there’s a chapter about poster design and how you have to consider what the design would look like tiled.

I collect Dum Dum wrappers. I like the simplicity of the little fruit/flavor icons, the patterns they form, and the boldness of the colors (each one uses 1-3 colors).
Check out Steven Heller’s collection of Italian Fruit Wrappers, which nudged me to post my modest little collection of what I previously thought was an embarassing trash stash.
Web spot for the NY’er, about being busy.

Lettering and Spot Illustrations for Lucky Peach Magazine. A slightly different version of the titles was published. Fuchsia Dunlop discusses delicious, tongue-numbing, ultra-spicy Sichuanese (my favorite!) food in London. Thanks very much to Walter Green.
